Thean Hou Buddhist Temple, Kuala Lumpur

Perched on the hilltop of Robson Heights overlooking Jalan Syed Putra is one of the most magnificent Chinese temples in Kuala Lumpur. Thean Hou Buddhist Temple Kuala Lumpur is known to be a striking six tiered Chinese temple situated on a vast expanse of 1.67 acres of land. The temple that belongs to Persatuan Hainan Selangor and Wilayah Persekutuan was completed in 1987 and was open for the public in 1989. Dedicated to goddess Tian Hou from Chinese mythology, Thean Hou Buddhist Temple Kuala Lumpur was built by Hainanese community residing in the city.

A major attraction in Kuala Lumpur, Thean Hou Buddhist Temple is a wonderful combination of modern architectural techniques and authentic traditional designs with majestic pillars, spectacular roofs, elaborate carvings and convoluted embellishments. Thean Hou Buddhist Temple that has elements of Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism has become a popular tourist destination in the city of Kuala Lumpur.

The front entrance of the temple has a multi-arched gateway and has been painted in red, a color that signifies prosperity and good fortune. The first level of the temple has souvenir stalls and a canteen for the tourists. The prayer hall of the temple is located on the fourth level. The prayer hall in Thean Hou Buddhist Temple has altars dedicated to deities and goddesses from Chinese mythology. The altar dedicated to Guan Yin, the goddess of mercy is located on the right side of the hall while that of Shui Wei Sheng Niang, the goddess of waterfront is on the left. The sculpture of Tian Hou is located in the center of this hall.
