All kinds of fishes including sharks and stingary, squid, prawn, lobster, crabs, oysters and many other edible shells make for the traditional cuisine in these areas. The food habits of the Muslim communities in Sabah are similar to the traditional Malay cuisine. Sabah food although does not use dry spices frequently, chilies and fragrant roots and leaves substitute them.

Sabah traditional cuisine is now mostly found in the homes and festivals at Sabah. Public selling of the food at Sabah is a rare activity now. However, the tourists seeking Sabah food can try to check out small stalls in coffee shops or the market stalls to get the most authentic food of Sabah.
