Selangor airports are well connected with major parts of the world through a regular service of domestic and international flights to Selangor in Malaysia. The Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is located 50 km southwest of Kuala Lumpur in the Sepang district of Selangor. It boasts of being one among the top airports of the world and is a major attraction with its unique forest-style setting, world-class sophisticated services, the tallest control tower in the world and a large number of eating joints.
The KLIA serves as the hub for nearly over 50 carriers to and from Selangor. The Kuala Lumpur airport receives a large number of domestic and international flights to Malaysia, including the country's national carrier Malaysia Airlines. Domestic flights to Malaysia are essentially handled by the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang that was once the international airport of Malaysia before the airport at Kuala Lumpur came into operation in 1998. It is presently used for general aviation, chartered and a few turboprop domestic carriers in Selangor. The airport connects Selangor with some of the major tourist destinations in Malaysia and also houses several flying clubs within its premises.
A new Low Cost Carrier Terminal in Sepang has recently been introduced in the list of Selangor Airports. The airport was launched in March 2006 and is presently the center for just one low-cost carrier, Air Asia, which operates its domestic and international flights to the terminal. The airport lies about 20 km from KLIA and can be conveniently reached from Kuala Lumpur by bus or cab.
