Fort Siloso, Singapore

The only preserved coastal fortification in Singapore today, Fort Siloso was built by the British to protect western entrance to the Singapore harbor. Built in the 1880s, Fort Siloso is located on Sentosa Island, Singapore.

Fort Siloso is a major window into the troubled history of Singapore. it has always been the most popular Singapore attraction for patriots and historians.

At the start of Second World War, Fort Siloso was one of the 12 batteries that made up 'Fortress Singapore'. This fort was the only battery that was restored after the war. During the Japanese Occupation of Singapore at the time of WW II, Fort Siloso served as a concentration camp for prisoners of war.

Fort Siloso came into the hands of the Singaporean government only after British troops departed in 1967. By 1975, the fort was refurbished and given a brand new look. It has since been converted into a museum and opened for general public.
